Roll Off Waste Containers
Waste in Motion can provide permanent placement roll off waste containers for industrial and commercial waste collection requirements. Typical clients would include factories, manufacturing facilities, distribution warehouses, grocery stores, shopping centres and commercial buildings. We also work with construction projects that require multiple lifts over a longer timeframe.
If your project is a single short term construction project requiring a small amount of waste removal (such as a bathroom or kitchen renovation on your house) you might be better off calling a local hauler in your area and dealing directly with them. But if you are a contractor with multiple sites spread out over many cities, then we would certainly like to speak with you about your particular dispatch and waste management needs. Roll off waste containers are the large rectangular shaped bins you see being lifted onto the backs of service trucks. Roll off bins are most commonly used for non permanent locations that produce larger volumes of heavier waste, such as construction sites. They are also used at permanent sites that consistently produce bulky materials, such as manufacturing facilities.
A new bin is delivered each time a swap out is requested (aka “Swap”) or the bin may be hauled away, emptied and returned (aka “Dump and Return”). This differs from Front Load bins where the bin is considered permanent, stays onsite for an extended period of time, and is emptied into a truck on a scheduled service basis
Roll Off Waste Container Characteristics
- Temporary, On call basis
- Used only for the time length of the project (1 day to several years)
- Most common use is for construction debris
- Can also be used at manufacturing sites
- Larger rectangular shaped bins
- 10 cubic yards to 40 cubic yards in volume
- Weights can be up to 16,000 lbs or more, depending on location
- Footprint sizes range from 12 feet long to 24 feet long x 7.5 feet wide
- Requires a fair amount of space for the bin
- Requires large space (30+ feet) directly in front of the bin for truck access
- Either taken away to be emptied, or swapped with an empty bin onsite
Commonly Used For:
- Construction Sites
- Home Renovations
- Business Renovations
- Manufacturing Plants
- Shopping Malls
- Hospitals
- Any other facility that has a large volume of waste to remove or recycle
Roll Off Dumpster Sizes and Types
The most common sizes for large roll off waste containers are 10, 15, 20, 30 and 40 cubic yards in capacity, and sometimes even larger. There are many shapes and sizes, but as a general rule, most roll off bins are 16 to 24 feet long and average 7.5 feet wide. These bin trucks do require space to operate, especially when dropping or lifting bins, so roll off containers in the larger sizes are best suited to sites that have room to maneuver.
The different sizes are used to manage differing waste streams. For example, low density loads (such as shipping crates) will almost always require a large waste container, whereas high density materials (such as glass cutoffs) generally require a smaller container because the material is so heavy. Cities, states and provinces all have regulations that limit payload weights. Typical load capacities will be between 5 and 9 tons, again depending on location.
Roll Off dumpsters are typically serviced by tandem axle trucks equipped with a cable lift system that drags the bins up onto a set of rails. An alternate style of bin style involves a hook on the bin front with a large “L” shaped hook lift system mounted on the truck. Some companies have bins with both styles in their inventory. But in North America, the dominant system is cable lift.
